Founder | Principal Architect
Eric Hofmann founded Hofmann Associates with a simple belief:
the home should be a place of refuge, beauty, and belonging.
Rooted in his faith and guided by a deep commitment to family, Eric approaches each project with care, integrity, and a long-term perspective. He believes architecture is not just about aesthetics, but about creating spaces that support meaningful daily life—where families gather, traditions take shape, and memories are built over generations.
Based in the Chesapeake Bay region, Eric specializes in custom waterfront homes and transformative renovations. His design philosophy draws inspiration from Scandinavian simplicity and the enduring character of Northeastern coastal architecture—blending clean lines, natural materials, and timeless proportions with a deep respect for the Bay’s landscape and heritage.
Building along the waterfront requires both creativity and clarity. Eric guides clients through regulatory complexities, design decisions, and budget considerations with a steady, collaborative approach. The result is architecture that feels authentic, enduring, and thoughtfully connected to place.
Above all, Eric sees his work as stewardship—designing homes that serve families well today and stand gracefully for decades to come.
Our Philosophy.
Designing Homes That Hold Life Well
At Hofmann Associates, we believe a home should be more than impressive — it should be enduring.
Our work is grounded in the conviction that architecture shapes daily life. The spaces we design become the backdrop for family dinners, quiet mornings, summer gatherings, and the traditions that mark the passing of time. Because of that, we approach every project with care, integrity, and long-term stewardship.
Faith and family are central to our foundation. They inform how we serve our clients, how we approach collaboration, and how we define success. A well-designed home should support meaningful living — not distract from it.
Rooted In Place
Designing along the Chesapeake Bay requires more than creativity. It requires respect.
The Bay carries history, environmental sensitivity, and regulatory complexity. Waterfront architecture must respond thoughtfully to floodplain requirements, critical area regulations, and the natural rhythms of tide, wind, and light.
We see these constraints not as limitations, but as guides. They shape homes that sit gracefully within their landscape — elevated when necessary, oriented intentionally, and crafted to weather both climate and time.
Our goal is always to create architecture that feels inevitable in its setting.
Inspired by Enduring Traditions
Our design philosophy draws from two enduring influences:
Scandinavian architecture, with its clarity, restraint, and emphasis on natural light and honest materials.
Northeastern coastal architecture, known for its proportion, craftsmanship, and quiet permanence.
Together, these traditions inform homes that are refined without excess, warm without ornament, and timeless without imitation.
We believe in clean lines, balanced proportions, thoughtful detailing, and materials that age beautifully. We avoid trends in favor of longevity. A home should feel as relevant in thirty years as it does on the day it is completed.
Clarity that Creates Confidence
Many of our clients are building a custom home for the first time — often on complex waterfront property. The process can feel overwhelming.
We believe great architecture requires not only creative vision, but structured guidance.
Our approach is collaborative and transparent. We begin by listening carefully — understanding how you live, what matters most, and what legacy you hope to create. From there, we guide you through design, permitting, budgeting, and construction with steady communication and thoughtful planning.
When there is clarity, there is confidence.
And when there is confidence, the experience becomes as rewarding as the final home.
Built for Generations
We do not design houses for a season.
We design homes intended to anchor families, frame views of the Bay, and stand with quiet strength for decades. Homes that feel authentic to their owners and deeply connected to their place.
Architecture, at its best, is an act of stewardship — of land, of craft, and of family life.
That is the standard we hold ourselves to on every project.
